Premiere: Phunkadelica shares haunting synth-wave cut, ‘Ipernova’

We’ve got the first play of Phunkadelica’s grizzly synth-wave cut ‘Ipernova’ which is coming out on Sicilian imprint Engrave LTD.

With the popularity of shows like Stranger Things and the imminent return of Bladerunner, synthwave and it’s many off-shoots seem to be quickly becoming the genre du jour one again, meaning there’s never been a better time to make grizzly retro-futuristic synth-wave — and that’s exactly what mysterious Italian producer Phunkadelica does — and he does it really well.

Phunkadelica’s ‘Ipernova’ is being released via Engrave LTD, a Sicilian label which has released tracks — ranging from italo disco to electro — from the likes of co founder Mauro Di Martino, Human machine (a collaboration between Musumeci, Sisio, Simeone and Pavi), ODD [São Paulo], Zopelar; and most recently A45.

Sticking to his Italian heritage, Phunkadelica’s latest is a trifecta of italo disco, electro and new wave flavours, with ‘Ipernova’ occupying space between synth-wave and electro. It’s a growling, grizzly cut of electro that’s brimming with retro-futuristic pad work, guttural basslines and stodgy drum work.
