Red Axes have turned in a stunning remix of Joakim’s ‘Samurai’ that’s 7 minutes of dough-eyed tribal bliss.
The Israeli duo are arguably one of the most under appreciated production duos around at the moment — but that’s slowly changing as they keep knocking gems on imprints including I’m A Chiche, Correspondant and Disco Halal in recent years
For their remix of Joakim’s latest ‘Samurai’ — which is taken from the producer’s forthcoming album — they let the melodies do the talking as they combine swirling, celestial leads with delicated pad work.
Joakim’s forthcoming ‘Samurai’ is about the artist’s journey between NY, Tokyo and Paris. In writing, Joakim was inspired by a range of influences from the literary (Mishima’s ‘Hagakure: Samurai Ethics & Modern Japan’), to the sonic (home-made electronic and “new age”’ style music) and the circumstantial (Japan and New York).
More of this, please.
Joakim’s new album ‘Samurai’ is out March 17 via Tigersushi/Because Music.
