Spotify is set to launch a new party playlist feature that aims to take the hassle out of selecting and mixing music for your party.
On the app you’re greeted with a slider which lets you choose the music’s mood from presumably smooth bar-room grooves to straight up bangers, or somewhere in-between.
Spotify has partnered up with Diplo, who has chosen 120 tracks for his party playlist, but the streaming service offers a range of styles – including R&B, soul and house – and plans to partner up with other DJs and artists in the future who aren’t all about the dance-hall riddums.
Once you’ve chosen your style of music and the mood, the app decides which tracks to play and will mix them without any interruptions or train crashes (so it reckons).
This sort of hands-off approach is great for people who don’t want to spend their entire evening programming music, and while it won’t replace the DJ anytime, it’s a clever addition to Spotify’s class-leading streaming app.
The update is rolling today on both iOS and Android.
