Spotify is set to make its games console debut on PS4 on May 30 according to the tweet (below) sent by Playstation France this week.
Amazingly, Spotify has never launched on consoles before, despite it being a highly requested feature from Spotify and Playstation users.
Details are still thin on the ground but what we do know is there will be full in-game background streaming from Spotify’s library of 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists.
At the moment the current status quo has seen Sony and Microsoft create their own rather lacklustre services, namely Xbox Music and Music Unlimited, to offer gamers an alternative.
While that’s very noble, no one really wanted Xbox Music or Music Unlimited in the first place – gamers wanted Spotify.
Sony is so serious about this deal they will also shut down their own streaming service Music Unlimited on March 29 to make way for Spotify this May.
Hopefully with Windows apps making their way to Xbox One this summer it won’t be long before a similar deal is done with Microsoft.
@BourgeoisDustin Bonjour, le service PlayStation Music, en partenariat avec Spotify, sera disponible le 30 mai.
