According to Tip Magazine, the best club in the world is about to get a whole lot better with Berghain and Panoramabar getting a face lift in 2010, as well as new music venue.
Electronic music fans that are already well-schooled about the clubbing mecca will know that it is housed in a former thermal power station in the Friedrichshain region of the city, with four areas of the club in regular operation. The Kantine, Laboratory and Berghain will remain unaffected by the changes, but the upstairs Panorama Bar floor will close for a two week period at the start of next year.
According to Resident Advisor, the guys at Tip Berlin received the following statement from the former power station’s owners: “So far we only use 50% of the building. We don’t want to speak about unoccupied spaces as at the moment we are in the middle of the plannings. We will begin shortly with the changes in the beginning of 2010. We want to develop a larger venue for concerts and other cultural events. Our focus is to open the new venue at the end of 2010. There will be a gigantic entertainment area developed from the former combined heat and power station in Friedrichshain.”
Fans of Friday night clubbing shouldn’t worry too much, though, as the main Berghain floor will act as a replacement for Panorama Bar during this period, with the Prologue label and dubstep-focused Sub:stance party stepping in to host proceedings. During this time, Panorama Bar will be fitted with a new soundsystem and wooden flooring, with some minor changes being made to the bar. If all goes to plan, it will reopen for Saturday’s Klubnacht event on 23rd January.
