Marek Hemmann’s ‘In between’ has achieved something quite special with his debut album, he has managed to combine the electronic and organic of music in perfect harmony to produce one of the best albums of the year.

Artist albums can always be a difficult skill to master with many trying to create something a bit different, often trying to showcase there skills in a variety of genres, usually creating a sea of mediocrity and often a disjointed listen.

Marek Hemmann’s debut ‘In Between’ can be grouped with a growing number of artists like Daft Punk, Booka Shade and Vitalic that have managed to create the perfect album, with first-rate composition and no weak tracks – this is impressive stuff.

Marek Hemman is a music collector and true connoisseur of tones and sonics, his debut album centres around his ability to mix the electronic sounds of the 21st century with organic sounds of the past.

Where this album stands out is in his ability to bring together many influences from Jazz, House and Techno, with a skill and precision that grabs the listener from start to finish.

The opening salvos set the tone for the whole album with the track ‘Alias’ capturing everything that is great about Marek Hemmann – subtle melancholy, sprinkled with dubby melodic pianos, all centred around a shuffling house beat.

The epic track ‘Compass’ shows Marek’s ability to craft a big-room sound with phasing synths, fantastic ripples of pianos and a driving beat.

Vocals are treated to some sublime production wizardry especially  ‘Inessa’ where Marek distorts and repeats a chant to create a great techno rhythm that is interweaved with organic sounds to great effect.

Early favourite ‘Gemini’ is a sax-driven house classic, electro beats mixed with warm xylophones, to create one of the standout tracks of the album.

Marek has managed to find a perfect balance between the machine and instruments for his sound, better yet that it still manages to be centred on the dance floor. Quite simply a masterpiece.
